Help making coffee with drip coffee maker?
I just purchased my first drip coffee maker. A 5 cup black and decker. I bought a pack of Columbian coffee. I noticed that when I try to make coffee, my coffee isn’t like black…it’s like a dark brown. I add 2 1/2 scoops for one cup of coffee. Also it still has a watery taste. Like the coffee isn’t strong enough I guess. Also my coffee isn’t HOT…it’s drinkable right away. So basically if I left the coffee sitting there for 10 minutes it would be just lukewarm. Is that normal? Is the coffee supposed to be scalding hot when it comes out? And why isn’t it black!! It also has a bitter/burnt taste…not smooth like say even Mcdonalds coffee…and that’s not saying much…help!

You hit the problem right on the head, the coffee maker is not heating the water hot enough.
Coffee is nasty any way so why bother?
I see your problem,,, It is Black and Decker.
Buy a Bunn, or like singletrack said, get a french press. If you want a cheep coffee maker that brew a nice dark beverage, then get a french press. Target sells one that doubles as a thermocup. Not only is it good but you can take it with you before it is done brewing!!!
p.s. Comparing a McDonalds coffee to a preground bag of coffee in a Black and Decker is like comparing the Mona Lisa to the drawing my kids did in school last week. MickeyD’s has gone to fresh roast coffee beans, ground in a professional burr grinder, and brewed in professional coffee makers. They have over a thousand dollars just into the grinder and coffee maker.
IF you truly want coffee that beats McD’d, go find a local coffee roaster or check out Intelligentsia coffee on the net. Buy some fresh roast beans. Before they show up, buy a burr grinder and a French Press at Target. Check out websites on how to use the press pot.
When the coffee shows up, keep out 1/3 pound and freeze the rest. Use that third to make some of the best coffee you have EVER had.
Your coffee maker is defective.
Coffee needs to be brewed @ around 200-205F. If it brews too cold it will taste terrible. Even worse, yours seems to barely be heating up at all.
Run water through it without the coffee. If you have a thermometer, check it; if it doesn’t register above 180F, it’s definitely no good.
If so, take it back & get another.
Even better, get a french press. Less electronics to worry about & the coffee tastes richer.
