I use a "La Marzocco" espresso machine at the coffeehouse I work at and my former manager told us to leave the portafilter’s on the machine after we pull a shot. Is this proper? She said it had something to do with pressure?

Im looking for one that is convenient, easy and fast to use, ive seen many capsules type but wondering if the capsules are expensive? and what if i like to try different coffee (like starbucks or a foreign type)
The valve is required on the steam wand of an espresso machine. It is to open and close after being switched on and throttle steam coming from a boiler without reducing the pressure in the boiler significantly.

Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine?
I am going to be a freshman in college this fall and my parents got me the Nespresso Pixie espresso machine. On the housing website, espresso and coffee machines are not on the list of things not to bring, however it does say not to bring "food preparation machines". I wouldn’t really consider an espresso machine a food preparation machine, but just to be safe, are espresso machines generally allowed in dorm rooms?
